The titular characters for Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger have been cast!
Marvel has officially announced that the upcoming live-action series – based on the superhero duo created by Bill Mantlo and Ed Hannigan in 1982 - has cast Olivia Holt as Tandy Bowen (aka Dagger) and Aubrey Joseph as Tyrone Johnson (aka Cloak).
Holt is best known for her roles in the Disney XD series Kickin' It, the Disney Channel sitcom I Didn't Do It, and the Disney Channel Original Movie Girl vs. Monster. She is also recognized for her singing. Hollywood Records released her debut EP, Olivia, last year.
Joseph has starred in movies such as Fading Gigolo and Run All Night. He has also appeared in the HBO miniseries The Night Of and NBC’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
Marvel TV head honcho Jeph Loeb and showrunner Joe Pokaski have spoken highly of both Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph. According to Pokaski:
When Olivia and Aubrey read for the roles, these characters leapt off the page.
Loeb added:
We're so excited to see what these talented young actors bring to the Marvel Universe…[the two young stars] encompass the true essence [of Cloak and Dagger].
While details about the series are scarce, Marvel has offered brief descriptions of the two lead characters. They come from totally different backgrounds, but each has grown up with a secret never shared with any other person. Here's how Dagger is described:
Once a privileged little girl, Tandy Bowen watched as her family was destroyed by a disastrous storm that uprooted her life. Now in her late teens, an unexpected encounter with a boy named Tyrone sparks a life changing event.
Marvel’s description of Cloak:
Young Tyrone Johnson wanted nothing more than to prove he was fearless. But when everything he held close was taken away, life taught Tyrone to be afraid. Now older and more sheltered, Tyrone closes himself off. But when he meets a girl named Tandy his life changes forever.
Freeform has provided Cloak and Dagger with a straight-to-series order. While an official announcement is yet to be made, rumor has it that the series will premiere in winter 2018.
