We may have seen them on their own, but we haven't seen them together. But in Marvel's The Defenders, we’ll get to see Charlie Cox's Daredevil, Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones, Mike Colter's Luke Cage, and Finn Jones' Iron Fist team up and fight the new enemy in town. However, we won't have to wait any longer for the first official look at the team, as that is exactly what’s on the cover of the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly!
The magazine issue also features a bunch of official photos that feature not only The Defenders, but also supporting characters like Simone Missick's Misty Knight and Jessica Henwick's Colleen Wing. And that's not all! There's also the first look at Sigourney Weaver's big baddie, whose identity has finally been revealed.
According to EW, Weaver is portraying a character named Alexandra, who showrunner Marco Ramirez describes as an "utter badass":
Her character is a very powerful force in New York City. She's everything Sigourney is: sophisticated, intellectual, dangerous.
Alexandra is apparently an original character, as there’s no supervillain named Alexandra in Marvel Comics. However, one might speculate that she is a gender-swapped version of Alexander Bont, a comic-book character who was the Kingpin of Crime before Wilson Fisk. Or she could be Bont’s daughter. Ramirez claims that Alexandra is a "massive" enough character to pull the four superheroes from their own worlds to work together, but also "small enough that it felt like it existed in our world".
While we’re sure that The Defenders will arrive on Netflix this year, a specific release date is yet to be announced. However, the magazine indicates that we will see all eight episodes of the crossover miniseries during the summer. Of course, this makes sense, considering the fact that the Iron Fist series is scheduled for a March 17, 2017 release and The Punisher series is reportedly also coming this year.
