Spider-Man is introduced late in Captain America: Civil War - that's what Anthony Russo, one of the directors of the movie, has confirmed recently. He, along with Ant-Man, serves as the comic relief for the movie's serious tone. That's the extent to which they have revealed on the web-slinger's role in Civil War.
The new Spider-Man actor Tom Holland is in his teen years - so, one would expect such a young actor to let slip a few details about his role or about the movie. But don't even expect that! While talking to Entertainment Weekly, the actor has stated that he doesn't even know "˜what Civil War is about'! Claiming that he's shot for a week or two for the movie, he said:
"So they offered for me to read the script, and I said "˜No, I don't want to read it, because I'll be doing all these interviews and I'll end up telling secrets and stuff. I've got such a big mouth.' So I actually don't know what it's about."
Holland went on to say that he is going to watch Civil War as "˜an audience member', rather than the actor who is a part of it. He added:
"I'll be like, "˜I wonder what my bits are about?'"
Tom Holland is real smart guy, just what you expect Spider-Man to be. If he hasn't really read the script, that's an intelligent decision because he will be asked repeatedly these same questions until the movie releases. And if this is a statement to get away with interviews without revealing much, that's cunning!
On the next page - Spider-Man actor talks on stealing from the previous incarnations of the character and a report on Sony's hilarious authority on Spider-Man!
He'll Steal from both Toby & Garfield's Spider-Man!
In another recent interview with Variety, the actor smartly responded to fan backlash on his Spider-Man casting. He said:
"Well, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and it just gives me more motivation to prove them wrong when I do start shooting the movie."
His director in In the Heart of Sea, Ron Howard, provided his confidence on Holland describing him as "˜energetic', "˜charismatic' and someone with "˜strong work ethic'.
During the interview, Tom Holland also commented that the only difference he's got with the previous Spider-Man actors is that he is "˜way younger'. I'm not sure if it is a smart thing to say, but he did say this:
"At the moment, there's going to be both things from Tobey [Maguire] and Andrew's [Garfield] character that I'm going to steal."
However, according to the actor, there's one "˜very specific path' that he and his Spider-Man standalone movie's director Jon Watts have agreed on and that they would like to "˜take the character down and explore his background'.
Sony Execs get to watch Civil War for Spider-Man Clearance!
Now, there's a new report from Heroic Hollywood's Umberto Gonzalez that even he finds quite hilarious! According to his sources, Marvel Studios have arranged a special screening of Captain America: Civil War for the executives from Sony Pictures! That has been done so that they can "˜give their notes' and "˜sign off' on the depiction of the new Spider-Man in the movie!
Well, I wasn't surprised by this one to be honest. No matter how badly they have messed up with Spider-Man in the past, they are still the lawful proprietors of the character. They own the rights! Having said that, I think they shouldn't do anything other than enjoying the movie and munch a few popcorns. Why? Because everyone knows Spider-Man is in SAFER hands!
