Two cast members for the Marvel Inhumans television show were confirmed over the past few days. Now it's time for a third! Accordingly, Marvel has officially announced that Serinda Swan, who played DC Comics superhero Zatanna Zatara in The CW's Smallville, will join Iwan Rheon and Anson Mount as key character Medusa in the upcoming ABC series.
At one point, it looked as though Arrow star Elysia Rotaru had bagged the role, but that’s obviously no longer the case. Perhaps this is an indication that celebrities’ social media activities aren't always suggestive of what’s actually happening!
Swan is known for her roles as Erica Reed in A&E's Breakout Kings; DEA Agent Paige Arkin in USA Network's Graceland; and Brittany Baker in NBC's Chicago Fire. Her big-screen ventures include Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and Tron: Legacy.
Here's what Marvel TV head-honcho Jeph Loeb had to say about the 32-year-old Canadian actress' casting:
Serinda empowers Medusa's regal glory and still maintains a relatability that synced perfectly with the character. She is nothing short of wonderful.
Showrunner Scott Buck added:
Serinda Swan brings a regal elegance, as well as a sense of great inner strength and fierce determination to the role of Medusa. I couldn't be happier to have her as our Queen of Attilan.
And here's Marvel’s character description for Medusa:
In this series, Medusa is the Queen of the Inhumans and wife of Black Bolt "” his most trusted advisor, a fiercely resilient warrior who has the ability to move and control her hair the way most people use their hands and fingers.
