It wasn't long ago that former UFC champion Ronda Rousey campaigned for the role of Captain Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While she didn't land the part - it went to Academy Award winning actress Brie Larsen, instead - it surely created a lot of buzz around the web. Whether Rousey eventually finds herself a superhero role remains to be seen, but now another UFC fighter wants to play a Marvel character.
Paige VanZant expressed her desire to be a part of the MCU in a recent interview with Fox Sports. But, unlike Rousey, she didn’t name a specific character that she would like to play. And she wouldn't even mind being offered a role in a Marvel television venture. When asked whether she is interested in playing a comic book character, VanZant said:
I would love that. That would be huge to be a Marvel character, be a superhero or be somebody that’s a badass, and it would be a girl, too, so I would love to get in a show like that. I am aspiring to be an actress, too, so if that comes my way I will definitely hold out hope for that"¦I’m saying it "” I want to be a Marvel character. I want to be a superhero!
Unlike Gina Carano and Ronda Rousey, Paige VanZant has yet to make her acting debut. But the 22-year-old strawweight fighter did appear as a contestant in season 22 of Dancing with the Stars. Partnering with professional dancer Mark Ballas, she reached the finals, finishing second behind Nyle DiMarco.
The report also revealed that VanZant was offered a small role in the upcoming Alain Moussi and Jean-Claude Van Damme starrer, martial arts film Kickboxer: Retaliation. However, she eventually had to turn down the offer, due to a scheduling conflict with her August bout against Bec Rawlings.
