Daredevil Season 3 may be around more than three weeks away from its premiere on Netflix, but Marvel Television already knows what they want to tackle in terms of story in three more potential seasons.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Marvel TV head-honcho Jeph Loeb suggests that they have got some plans for the fourth, fifth and sixth season of Daredevil. However, the coming to fruition of those plans depends on two other parties: Netflix and the showrunners of the particular seasons. Answering a question about the biggest challenges to moving forward story-wise beyond The Defenders, here's what Loeb says:
It always begins in the same place. We find the best showrunners that we can, whether it's Steve Lightfoot on Punisher or Erik on Daredevil, and we work together with them to craft the best story that we can"¦ Does Marvel have an idea as to what Daredevil 4, 5, or 6 could be? Sure. But ultimately those things will be shifted and talked about by the two other important parties that are involved: the network "” Netflix "” and our showrunner. So we take it on a season-by-season basis, with a general idea as to where we want to be for all of our characters.
During the interview, the Marvel Head of TV admits that the upcoming third season is the first story of The Man Without Fear where they didn't have to deal with the burden of setting up elements that would lead to a future show. In the first two seasons, they had to go back and refer the mythology of the Hand and other elements that would eventually be in The Defenders.
Jeph Loeb also confirms that they currently have no plans for The Defenders Season 2. But he claims that a sophomore season isn't completely off the table. Again, for the future runs of all these shows, the decision is in the network's hands.
All the 13 episodes of Daredevil Season 3 premiere on Netflix this October 19.
