It’s been a while since we heard that Luke Cage Season 2 would definitely happen, but we still don’t know exactly when it's coming to Netflix. In a recent tweet Simone Missick, who was introduced as Misty Knight in the first season, suggested that she’s getting ready to shoot for her character. Subsequently, OLV spotted production signs for the show. Could it be that cameras might soon roll for the second season?
That Hashtag Show claims to have a casting breakdown for two new Luke Cage characters. One of them, Byron, appears to be a villain. He could even be the main villain:
30 - 45, 6'0 or taller.
Jamaican, but open to Black Caribbean or African Descent.
The smartest man any room, the most effortlessly powerful man in any situation. A natural leader, brimming with resentment, but focused on justice.
Physically fit and wildly intelligent. Speaks with a native accent from Jamaica/Caribbean/Africa, etc.
SERIES REGULAR
Based on the description, combined with what they've seen in an audition tape, THS speculates that Byron could be a pseudonym for John McIver, the original Bushmaster. In Marvel Comics, he was a powerful Caribbean mob boss, who once forced Dr. Noah Burnstein (played by Michael Kostroff in the show) to perform a modified version of the Power Man process on him so he could become more powerful than Luke.
The YouTube channel confirmed that Evan Parke (King Kong, Django Unchained) auditioned for the role, but added that no one’s sealed a deal yet.
The rumored casting breakdown describes the other character as Tamara:
Mid-20's - early 30's, African American, female, earthy.
A brilliant, confident business owner who prides herself on her independence…As much as she tries to stay far from trouble, it always seems to find her.
ACTORS MUST BE STRONG SINGERS.
SERIES REGULAR
THS speculates that Tamara could be a gender-swapped version of Luke's younger brother James Lucas, Jr., aka Coldfire. The Netflix portion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe made a similar change by introducing Jeri Hogarth (Carrie-Anne Moss), a female version of the Jeryn Hogarth character. So it wouldn't be surprising to meet Luke Cage’s younger sister during Season 2.
The Tamara audition tape showed Precious and 5 to 7 star Amina Robinson reading for the part. Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean that she landed the role.
