During the first season of Legion, Amahl Farouk, aka the Shadow King, haunted and terrorized David Haller (Dan Stevens) from inside his head. In the upcoming season, but he’ll do the same, but from the outside.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed during the official Legion panel at San Diego Comic Con that Said Taghmaoui (Sameer in Wonder Woman), has been signed to play Farouk. The outlet also provided FX's official description of the Shadow King, which dubs him the "villain with a thousand faces", and continues:
In his real form, he is always nattily dressed. Dapper, with a thin Clark Gable-style mustache. His eyes forever hidden behind a pair of ornate sunglasses. He was hip long before there was such an idea. He can seductively hold court on any topic and in any language, but his true passion lies in the singular, timeless notion of power, and amassing as much of it as possible.
It is rumored that he is the spawn of the first nightmare, which is fitting, because fear is his weapon of choice in exposing weakness in others. To Farouk, fear equals weakness, and he fears nothing. Which is why he takes such delight in seeing others squirm – a reminder that he is more powerful than they are.
Meanwhile, lead actor Dan Stevens told ET that he approached Patrick Stewart, the older Charles Xavier of X-Men film series, about reprising the role in Legion Season 2:
Oh, God, Patrick Stewart takes a lot of beating, and he did seem interested. He seemed very unaware of the show, but I mentioned that he was my dad, and he seemed pleasantly surprised.
David Haller is the mutant son of Charles Xavier in the comic books, but the FX series hasn't addressed that yet. However, Stevens said that they definitely want to deal with it in the sophomore season:
I think we want to address that. It’s normal when you learn you’re adopted to want to know who your real family is. He doesn't yet know the identity, so I think it will be a process to get there.
The official Legion Twitter account recently shared that showrunner Noah Hawley was asked about Stewart's appearance, and responded as follows:
Will Professor X ever make an appearance as David’s father? “We’re working on it," Noah Hawley cryptically reveals. #LegionFXX #FXSDCC
