According to actor Vincent D'Onofrio, who plays The Kingpin in Daredevil Season 3, his character’s story arc will apparently be an important and emotional one, and the character’s scenes will be quite impressive.
During its first season, Daredevil introduced us to big baddie Wilson Fisk, aka The Kingpin. The role was smaller and relatively insignificant during the series’ sophomore season, but it was a tantalizing cameo, nonetheless.
Some time ago, we came across an announcement that the series would have a new showrunner for its third season, as well as a a confirmation that D'Onofrio would return as the supervillain. His second-season appearance merited no up-front announcement, so we assume that his part in Daredevil Season 3 will be comparable to his meatier first-season role.
Based on a recent interview with Collider, in which D'Onofrio revealed that his character’s journey in the upcoming season would be very emotional, it appears that our assumption was accurate. He added that he'd already filmed some exciting scenes:
It's hard to top the first season, with Steven DeKnight's writing, but Erik Oleson (the new showrunner) is a very good writer. I've shot some pretty cool scenes, so far. It's different, but it's very Fisk. It's still very emotional. The character is evolving. His whole deal is based on emotion, so we're taking him further down that road.
The interviewer asked how the Kingpin's time behind bars affected his mind-set, and whether his goals remained the same. Donofrio’s response:
There are new focuses and new goals. That's all I can say. If it was up to me, I would go on and on and on about it because it's so interesting, but it's so important to them for us to keep our mouths shut.
During the interview, D'Onofrio shared that comic book fans' interest and enthusiasm motivated him to offer his best work. He added that Daredevil’s third season is “just going to blow the fans away”.
