Back in October, we were introduced to former WWE superstar Cody Rhodes as the Stardust drug dealer Derek Sampson in the Arrow Season 5 episode A Matter of Trust. While that was his first role in the superhero genre, it might not necessarily be his last. At least, that's what the professional wrestler would like to believe.
While speaking to Bleeding Cool recently, Rhodes revealed that he is interested in playing a particular Marvel Comics character who is about make his live-action debut in Marvel's The Inhumans series next year, Black Bolt:
I will fully disclose that I have been actively pursuing a couple of roles, (Black Bolt) being one. I now have uprooted, moved to LA, to look into acting more, especially after the Arrow episode. So that would mean the world to me if that were to happen. And we're actively looking into it. I'm all about it.
According to Rhodes, the Inhumans’ ruler is "one of the best characters in all comics". He continued, "The idea that a simple, spoken word could blow a room up is just"¦I dig everything that is Black Bolt."
As for his role in the Arrowverse, Cody Rhodes claimed that he "would love to" return and that there's "a good chance" of that happening. But he insisted that they have "no concrete plans" for that at the moment.
During the interview, Rhodes also revealed that he is a bigger fan of Cyclops than Wolverine in X-Men comics. But he did admit that Hugh Jackman's cinematic version of the character is "pretty special".
Marvel's The Inhumans will premiere on ABC after its first two episodes have screened in IMAX theaters for two weeks, starting September 4, 2017. So it's likely that Marvel will reach a decision about who they want to hire as Black Bolt toward the beginning of 2017.
