Marvel Zombies Gets New Release Date On Disney+

Marvel Zombies (2025) - Disney+

Several years after it was first announced, we finally have a release date for the long-awaited Marvel Zombies. The animated series was previously revealed to be arriving as part of the 2025 slate on Disney+. It was originally slated for October to get in on the Halloween season. Now, however, we have word that the release date has been bumped up. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, September 24.

As part of a recent interview with series director Bryan Andrews, Collider has revealed that Marvel Zombies will release all four of its episodes on Disney+ on September 24. Four episodes may seem like a short run but as Andrews explained, they originally thought of it as a movie. Then, as the project shifted, they turned it into a show. Though he still described it as a movie broken up into different parts.

“Originally, we were thinking it’d be a movie, if like, ‘Ooh, we should release it as a movie.’ We should just do a movie. But there were some things that came up, certain issues that we just had to kind of, ‘Oh let’s break it. We’ll have to break it up into four episodes.’ So basically it’s like a four-episode mini-event, like a film broke up into four parts, basically. So yeah, it’s definitely… It’s one story. It’s one throughline. A lot of insanity happens.”

Based on the 2005 Robert Kirkman comic series of the same name, Marvel Zombies traces its roots back to 2021. An episode of What If…? season 1 imagined a Marvel Cinematic Universe ravaged by zombies. As one of the most popular episodes of the show, Marvel Studios eventually green lit the project as a standalone series.

Here is the synopsis for the Marvel Zombies comic.

“It first came from the skies – a horrific virus that turned nearly every man, woman and child on Earth into undead zombies. Even Marvel’s greatest heroes – including Captain America, Spider-Man and the Hulk – have succumbed, driven only by one mindless goal: to feed on human flesh. But with only a small number of survivors remaining against this unstoppable tide of hunger, what happens when the zombie’s finally run out of humans to eat?!”

Fans wondering if the show will pull any punches need not worry. Andrews also confirmed that the show has a TV-MA rating, meaning it’s on the more mature side. “I think the rating comes from the level of violence and or intensity of the moments that the characters find themselves in. And yeah, blood gets spilled, and we want to be able to see that,” he explained.

Marvel Studios isn’t as afraid of pushing boundaries beyond PG-13 these days. The success of Deadpool & Wolverine helped the studio embrace R-rated stuff. So much so that Kevin Feige has confirmed that more R-rated MCU movies will happen in the future. Dare we wonder if a live-action Marvel Zombies movie might be in the cards down the line? Let’s not get too ahead of ourselves.
