Gotham introduced Cameron Monaghan this season as Jerome, the younger version of The Joker, and with the appearance just a few minutes in length, he was able to convince almost everyone that he's the perfect choice for the role. Since then, many fans have been anticipating his next appearance.
We've heard already at WonderCon that we'll get to some more of The Joker in the second season. Now, the showrunner Bruno Heller re-confirms to Comicbook.com that the origin story of the Clown Prince of Crime will be dealt with towards the beginning of the next season. Heller states, "The beginning of Season Two is the very earliest origins of how The Joker came to be."
The showrunner, however, denied any chances of Monaghan's character reappearing in any of the remaining episodes this season.
And It's Not Just A BIT Of The Joker!
According to Heller, the beginning of Gotham's second season is "˜a big Joker-oriented' or in other words a story on "˜how The Joker came to be'. That means, it isn't just "˜a bit' of Jerome that we'll see as suggested previously, rather something really big!
The Gotham showrunner also claimed that their version of The Joker is "˜pre-embryonic', so one shouldn't really expect to see a great deal of the supervillain's traits.
Is It Too Early To Present His Origin?
DC Comics has always kept The Joker’s origin a mystery, so the attempt of bringing in his younger version and trying to provide him a certain origin has been criticized by some fans. Many others have commented that it's way too early to introduce the character and that should have happened at least not before the third or fourth season of the Fox series.
Maybe the popularity that Monaghan has attained as Jerome with the cameo-kind-of-appearance might have convinced the makers that it isn't worth any delay. What do you think though?
