Great news for the fans of the Girl of Steel, Supergirl is not being canceled after its opening season! It has finally been renewed for a second season. But the series will no longer air on CBS; it’s heading to The CW, the home of Arrow, The Flash and DC's Legends of Tomorrow. The confirmation comes from Entertainment Weekly, along with a number of other outlets.
After CBS announced renewals for various shows, many were unsure if Supergirl would make it to a Season 2. This is because the show's ratings dropped significantly during its 20-episode run after a grand season premiere on October 26, 2015.
For the last few weeks we've been hearing rumors about the show's shift to The CW for the second season. But there were other rumors as well, one of which suggested that Supergirl Season 2 would be aired on CBS, but its budget will be pared down. So, we weren't sure about Kara Zor-El's fate.
Many actually didn't consider Supergirl a good fit for CBS right from the beginning, as the network is best known for its crime dramas. But The CW, with its Arrowverse, seems to be the perfect home for the series.
This move obviously assures us that there will be more Supergirl crossovers with The Flash. We loved the episode where Melissa Benoist's character worked shoulder to shoulder with Grant Gustin's Scarlet Speedster, didn't we? Maybe we'll get to see Kara with Stephen Amell's Green Arrow, too!
Supergirl Season One was filmed in Los Angeles but rumors suggest that it will move to Vancouver for Season Two, where the Flash and Arrow are filmed. This would reduce production expenses, but The CW hasn't confirmed it.
