Marvel has just released the synopsis and main cast for Captain America: Civil War - there aren't too many surprises in here, except for the addition of Ant-Man and, maybe, a further reason for which the Superhuman Registration Act is instated.
But what do we really know about this movie? Well, check it out below!
Civil War - keeping close to the comics
In a nutshell, Marvel's Civil War will follow the same lines as the comic book version - the government(s) will try to regulate or superhero activities, thus placing Iron Man and Captain America on different sides of the barricades. Zemo and Crossbones are the known antagonists - just like in the comics, they may get involved directly in the Civil War or just act like puppeteers, from a distance.
Some changes are still made
In the MCU, the superheroes are public figures, with their identities already revealed to the general public - newcomers Scarlet Witch and Vision are the ones about which the public known nothing of. So here is where the MCU's Civil War will distance itself from the comic book version.
In the MCU, the point of the Superhero Registration Act won't be to reveal the secret identities of the superheroes, but to have them answer to a higher power - in a way, the Registration Act will have them under the control of the government(s).
Spider-Man and Black Panther
At this moment, these are the greatest secrets of the MCU's Civil War - we don't know what their roles will be in the movie. Sure enough, based on the comic book characters, we may believe that Spider-Man will eventually join Iron Man and we may believe that Black Panther (given the seclusion of his home country) will have an agenda of his own.
So, in a way, we aren't even talking about unmasking them - Black Panther will certainly not do that for the public of the whole world, while the unmasking of Spider-Man (just like in the comics) has no reason to happen, as said at the bullet above.
Avengers after Age of Ultron
Animosities between the superheroes were noticed from the first Avengers film and became even more visible during Age of Ultron. Given the number of superheroes that will be present, it can be said that Civil War might just be the second part of Age of Ultron.
As of this moment, IMDB lists no less than 11 major players (without Spider-Man), leaving the villains aside. And that is a huge number by any standard, if we are considering the MCU. Sure enough, there are no X-Men or Fantastic Four in this Civil War, but still - this cast dwarves the one of the first Avengers film and is bigger than the one of Age of Ultron.
Choosing sides
Since both Iron Man and Captain America have such strong personalities, none of them will give in - they will definitely clash. As said in here, there are characters of which we may already know what sides they will pick.
Sure enough, the main event of the MCU's Civil War is expected to be, just like in the comics, a fight between Iron Man and Captain America. However, given the teams and even the relationships between the members of the teams, it is also expected that skirmishes will take place throughout the entire movie. Who will win in the end is anybody's guess.
Death
Crossbones appearing in Civil War can mean only one thing for the comic book fans - that Steve Rogers will meet his end at the end of the movie, his place as Captain America being taken by Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier.
But this isn't the likeliest way in which the movie will end, since Chris Evans will appear in both installments of the Infinity War. Unless, of course, his death in the Civil War won't be a permanent one, just like in the comics and just like almost any other death in the MCU.
