A few months back, Marvel Studios officially confirmed Taika Waititi as the director of Thor: Ragnarok. The fifth installment of Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase Three will also feature Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner, aka Hulk. So, how does the director plan to explore the Green Rage Monster? What kind of Hulk will we see in Thor: Ragnarok?
In response to a similar question during a recent interview with Hitfix, Waititi hinted at the possibility of a “verbal” Hulk in the November 3, 2017 release, saying:
It’s interesting, because at the moment, there’s a big conversation that’s happening about how far to push that. Whether or not The Hulk should be [verbal/conscious].
However, it's not just his or writer Stephany Folsom's call. He continued:
I think a lot of those conversations have more to do with what’s going to come up in future movies. So I think a lot of those decisions are larger group decisions, rather than anything to do with just me or the writer.
The Thor: Ragnarok director claimed that there's “a lot of stuff” that Marvel has to consider, but he thinks it's “the best way to track it”. In his opinion, everyone wants to see such “development and the evolution” in regard to Hulk. And he believes that it can be done “in a fun way”.
Taika Waititi's Goal – to make Thor the “Best Character”!
When asked if Tom Hiddleston's Loki would appear in Thor: Ragnarok, Waititi admitted that the God of Mischief is indeed a “big” and “great” part of the Thor franchise, but his focus is on something else. He stated:
My focus really is making sure that Thor is the best character, though.
The interviewer then mentioned that this is something that hasn't been accomplished yet. At that, Waititi laughed and added:
Yeah, well, that is my goal! Because he’s got to be. And it should be that way.
Thor: Ragnarok – Not going to be “A Crazy Comedy”!
Taika Waititi is recognized more for his mastery of the comedy genre, but will that be his weapon in helming Thor: Ragnarok? He guaranteed the following:
It’s not going to be a crazy comedy, like over the top.
However, he does believe that comedy is his “strength” and that Marvel hired him because they wanted humor in the movie. He concluded by saying:
So, I think that is the thing I can bring to it to give it a different spin and freshen it up a bit.
