While the Netflix corner of the MCU has managed to attract quite a few good actors until now, it was a big surprise to learn that Alien star and heroine Sigourney Weaver will appear in 2017’s The Defenders. But she won't have just a secondary, minor role. The actress was announced to play the big baddie of the season, even if we’ve had no word about who that character might be.
While promoting A Monster Calls, the actress discussed her future projects with Variety. Obviously, she praised Avatar director James Cameron, as well as the scripts for the Avatar sequels. She also talked about the Neil Blomkamp Alien project, expressing her interest in returning to the Alien universe.
But she also said a couple of things about The Defenders. As one might expect, she didn't reveal anything. However, she did seem to be having lots of fun playing the character, no matter who that might be:
I can't say much, because they might kill me. I think everyone I work for might kill me if I tell you anything. But I have the most delicious character. She's really smart, and she's very in charge.
Now people are speculating that she is portraying The Beast of the Hand, thus providing a connection with previous Netflix shows (obviously, we’re talking about Daredevil). However, her character could be an amalgam of more villains from the comics - and the name Typhoid Mary (who is a mutant) is being whispered by many.
So is Sigourney Weaver going to reveal to us that Marvel and 20th Century Fox have started working together? We can only hope.
