The Defenders: Sigourney Weaver Confirmed as Villain

The Defenders NYCC panel showcased all of the Defenders together onstage for the first time. And, as exciting as this might be for those who have watched all the Netflix shows of the MCU until now, it’s nothing when compared to this news: Sigourney Weaver will portray the main villainess of the series!

And this is as big as it can get. Weaver (best known for her role in the Alien series) is yet another big name added to the MCU. And while her skills would have been perfect for the big screen, her appearance in The Defenders will certainly have a great impact.

Of course, there is no word yet as to what character she'll portray. Until now, we believed that the events from the first 2 Daredevil seasons would continue in the Defenders. Thus, we believed that the Hand would be featured heavily in the first season, which will feature Jessica JonesLuke Cage, Iron Fist, and Matt Murdock. Apparently, Netflix and Marvel will go in another direction, instead.

To be noted, some events from all of the shows until now can be pieces of a puzzle to be discovered in The Defenders. Thus, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage have both featured experiments meant to enhance ordinary humans, while Daredevil has featured a similar project, with the Hand adopting a mystical approach to the same end (the whole Black Sky subplot from both seasons).

Could Sigourney Weaver's character be the one to blend these two approaches into a single one, creating a villain worthy of facing the Defenders? This could be it, even if some fans are going even further with the speculation, saying that the actress will portray an immortal being.

It's anybody's guess at this point.
