We’ve had no reliable news about that fast-tracked Man of Steel sequel, and The Flash still doesn’t have a director. However, it appears that Warner Bros. has its eye on Mark Millar’s limited Superman: Red Son. If you’re wondering how this particular storyline might fit into the current DC Extended Universe, you’re not alone.
Of course, Mark Millar revealed that the studio checks out multiple comic book story arcs when deciding on a film starring a particular superhero. But even if that’s true (and it is), it’s surprising that Red Son, an Elseworlds story, has been mentioned.
In this arc, Kal-L crashed in the Soviet Union rather than in the USA. This made him an enemy of the US, and rather than starting a nuclear race, it starts a superhuman race. It’s an interesting story, and it’s full of twists and turns that lead up to a major reveal. But is this the right time to adapt it?
This news popped up after a Twitter conversation between Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts and Mark Millar. It began like this:
Proof director @VogtRoberts is Batman…
1/ He’s tweeting at 1am, clearly out on patrol
2/ He has a giant beard – just like Batman has. pic.twitter.com/QJIpATPD88"” Mark Millar (@mrmarkmillar) June 27, 2017
It continued:
Batmobile â˜‘ï¸ Batwing â˜‘ï¸ Batbeard â˜‘ï¸ You just revealed my identity and have now locked yourself into an eternal tug-o-war as my supervillain. https://t.co/vuZDOifWER
"” Jordan Vogt-Roberts (@VogtRoberts) June 27, 2017
Then came the Red Son mention:
This thread is giving me tangential pangs of what-could-have-been for the version of Red Son I pitched that will sadly never get made. Oy.

Millar added:
Did you hear WB pitching director’s Red Son? Two diff pals in last 2 months. This truly is Putin’s America.

So what do you think? Millar posted that he’d rather not see this story butchered for the big screen, but he added that the previously mentioned director would do a proper job:
Early rumors of a Superman: Red Son movie. I’d be wary of seeing this adapted, but @VogtRoberts is a genius & would make me less nervous. https://t.co/WSnVkW1j36

It would be pretty weird to see Red Son in this DCEU.
