Spider-Man: Homecoming Director Confirms Spidey Suit AI Voice Actor!

Spider-Man: Homecoming director confirms voice actor for Spidey suit's AI!

Spider-Man: Homecoming co-producer Eric Carroll revealed in April that the suit that Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) built for Tom Holland's titular superhero would have its own J.A.R.V.I.S.-like AI interface. Later, when the movie’s final trailer dropped online, we first heard the voice of the suit's AI, which Peter Parker had dubbed “Karen”.

While we weren’t able to identify the voice, we were sure that the actor was female. More recently, it was reported that Jennifer Connelly (A Beautiful Mind) had lent her voice to the Spidey-suit. But io9's Germain Lussier tweeted that the actress who portrayed Betty Ross in Ang Lee's Hulk wasn’t involved in "any capacity" with Spider-Man: Homecoming. Lussier’s tweet has since been deleted.

More recently, Homecoming director Jon Watts confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that Connelly did voice the AI. Interestingly, the Academy Award-winning actress is the wife of Paul Bettany, who voices J.A.R.V.I.S. and plays Vision in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As you may have guessed, the Spider-Man: Homecoming director is aware of this connection:

Yes, it's Jarvis' wife (laughs). It's cool, right?

Of course it's cool! And we couldn't have asked for a better casting choice than Connelly. Since Holland's webslinger has multiple MCU installments to come beyond the July 7, 2017 release, it feels safe to assume that we’ll be hearing the 46-year-old actress's AI voice for a while.

In other news, Deadline reports that box office analysts currently suggest that Spider-Man: Homecoming should command a $90-110 million opening weekend in North America. More aggressive estimates point to a $120 million-plus debut, but Sony Pictures projects a conservative $80-95 million debut. The analysts expect the movie to make $190-210 million in its global debut, which includes 60 percent of overseas territories.
