When it comes to Marvel characters who deserve the Netflix treatment, Shang-Chi is right out there with the likes of Moon Knight and Punisher. But, unlike the previously mentioned characters, Shang-Chi might actually be the first one to have his own solo series. To be noted, Jeph Loeb already shot down the rumors saying that Frank Castle will get a much deserved spin-off.
This piece of information concerning Shang-Chi comes from That Hashtag Show, which also broke the news that Finn Jones will portray Daniel Rand, aka Iron Fist. The channel now says that another fan-favorite character will be introduced in the series, thus marking the appearance of the first Asian Marvel superhero on the small screen.
Thus, it is reported that Marvel and Netflix are actively searching for an Asian actor to portray this character in the upcoming Iron Fist series. Also, it is said that the shooting of Iron Fist will begin in April, with a targeted release date sometime in 2017 (we suspect that will be in the second half of the year).
According to Screen Rant, the idea behind Shang-Chi's introduction is to diversify the MCU (with the Netflix TV series being the darkest corner of the shared universe). Thus far we have Daredevil, the female superhero Jessica Jones, the African American superhero Luke Cage (who appeared in Jessica Jones and will have his solo series released this year), as well as Iron Fist.
From this point of view it makes sense to have a superhero of another race on Netflix.
Called the Master of Kung Fu, Shang-Chi has been affiliated with quite a few superhero teams - Heroes for Hire (which has Luke Cage and Iron Fist as founding members) is one of them. So again it makes sense to have him.
What do you think though?
Will Shang-Chi indeed appear in Iron Fist?
