X-Men: First Class Screenwriter Joins Red Sonja Reboot!

Wonder Woman was so successful for Warner Bros. that a number of their fellow Hollywood studios have been encouraged to come up with their own female-centric comic book adaptations. For example, we learned last November that Millennium Films had fast-tracked a live-action revival of Dynamite Entertainment’s Red Sonja.

Deadline recently confirmed that the Red Sonja movie brought in screenwriter Ashley Edward Miller, who's no stranger to the world of comic book movies. His credits include the movies Thor and X-Men: First Class, as well as television appearances in Andromeda, Fringe, Black Sails, and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Miller had the following to say about his latest venture:

It’s an exciting opportunity to faithfully adapt the amazing Hyborean world Robert E. Howard created, and inject it with Sonja’s intelligence, ferocity, and fearless humanity. I want people to love Sonja the way I love her, and walk out of the theater understanding why she’s so popular and enduring. Sonja is an icon.

Brigitte Nielsen starred in a live-action Red Sonja movie in 1985, and Angelica Bridges played the character in television's late-1990s series Conan the Adventurer. Other Red Sonja projects included a series starring WWE Diva Sable, a movie with The Expendables 2 director Simon West at the helm, and a series headed by X-Men director Bryan Singer. Unfortunately, none of these projects ever saw the light of day, but we're hoping that this latest effort escapes a similar fate!
