Ragnarok Ends Thor's Trilogy, but Begins the Infinity War

Although Taika Waititi and Chris Hemsworth made it known that they’re available to move ahead with the Thor franchise beyond this year's Thor: Ragnarok, all evidence indicated that it would be the franchise’s final installment. This actually made sense, because the stories of Thor’s fellow AvengersIron Man and Captain America, were told in trilogies, and the Thor films were considered the weakest of all of the MCU movies.

During an interview with the Toronto Sun,  Kevin Feige confirmed that the Thor franchise will end with Ragnarok:

Ragnarok (Marvel)

I think that we are finding ourselves as we complete Phase 3 and finish this 22-movie narrative, and that it's working out well that way. We did three Iron Man films, three Captain America films, three Thor films.

But that’s not all. While Ragnarok is just a couple of months away, we don't know much about it, and this leaves us plenty of room to speculate. Chris Hemsworth teased that it wouldn't be long before we learned the location of the final Infinity Stone, so we’re thinking that the final Thor movie might reveal the location of the Soul Stone (it’s been rumored that Heimdall was its bearer).

But even if the Soul Stone is revealed in another movie (Black Panther is the only release between Ragnarok and Infinity War), Thor's final solo movie will also bring the siege and downfall of Asgard, which will certainly weaken the universe prior to Thanos’ arrival (and Asgard will fall, since it’s home to another Infinity Stone, the Tesseract).

Feige added that Thor: Ragnarok will prepare us for the Infinity War:

Things change drastically in Ragnarok, and then build directly into Infinity War.

Thor: Ragnarok will be released on the November 3, 2017, followed by Black Panther on February 16, 2018 and Avengers: Infinity War on May 4, 2018.
