Patty Jenkins Talks Wonder Woman 3 Setting And Justice League 2 Directorial Gig!

If Patty Jenkins returns at the helm for a third Wonder Woman movie, it won’t be set in the past. And she might end up landing the directorial gig for a newer Justice League movie, but she believes that project shouldn’t happen anytime soon.

The original Wonder Woman movie saw Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince fighting in World War I. We will find her in a Cold War setting in Wonder Woman 1984. Even before the second movie has arrived in theaters, fans have already been speculating about the era in which the events of the third movie would unfold.

Patty Jenkins seems to have made up her mind that it is not going to be in the past. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at 2019 Sundance Film Festival, she asserts:

I'm not set, but I'm not dying another period piece.

A recently-published THR piece came up with the suggestion that Wonder Woman 3 should explore the future. Referring to the particular idea, Jenkins adds:

It's definitely one of the things we talked about. I'm not planning to put it in the past again, because where are you going to go? You have to go forward. It's definitely a contemporary story. That's all I can say. Where we put it and how that gets figured out, I haven't totally nailed down.

With Wonder Woman and Aquaman ending up more successful (critically and commercially) than Justice League, many fans are championing either Patty Jenkins or James Wan for the director’s chair of a potential sequel to the DC Comics team-up movie. Jenkins wouldn’t say no to the possibility, but she definitely thinks we need more solo movies before the superheroes reunite. According to the director:

The Justice League movie, I find those movies to be extremely challenging. I think they are fantastic when they are well done. But taking on all of those characters at the same time in the timeline ... I sort of hope that we don't do a Justice League movie for a little while, because I'm excited to see all of their movies. I want to see Aquaman 2, I want to see Flash. Never say never, but I think everyone should have their moment to shine.
