Vin Diesel’s Bloodshot Movie Gets New 2020 Release Date

Bloodshot is, lowkey, one of the biggest and quite possibly most intriguing comic book movies coming our way in 2020. We’re just going to have to wait a tiny bit longer to see it. Sony Pictures, who is hoping they have a new franchise on their hands here, has delayed the film just a bit. The Valiant Comics adaptation, which stars Vin Diesel in the lead, had been set to arrive on February 21, 2020. As reported by Collider, it’s now set to arrive on March 13, 2020.

Marvel is tied up at Disney and Warner Bros. owns DC. With comic book movies seemingly not going anywhere, anytime soon, other studios have had to get creative when it comes to finding possible comic book franchises. Sony turned to Valiant and, at one point, had plans for a possible cinematic universe, with a Harbinger adaptation also on the table. It seems those grand plans have since been scrapped, but they still could have a solo franchise here for Diesel, who is a bankable star in the right setting.

Diesel has helped to turn the Fast & Furious series into a multi-billion dollar behemoth and he also voices Groot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While his contributions are relatively small, Groot is a beloved character and the Guardians of the Galaxy films have been tremendously successful. But this will make Diesel the face of a possible series of big-budget comic book flicks.

Here’s the official synopsis for Bloodshot

“Based on the bestselling comic book, Vin Diesel stars as Ray Garrison, a soldier recently killed in action and brought back to life as the superhero Bloodshot by the RST corporation.  With an army of nanotechnology in his veins, he’s an unstoppable force –stronger than ever and able to heal instantly.  But in controlling his body, the company has sway over his mind and memories, too. Now, Ray doesn’t know what’s real and what’s not – but he’s on a mission to find out.”

The cast also includes Guy Pearce (Iron Man 3, Memento), Eiza Gonzalez (Baby Driver, Hobbs & Shaw), Sam Heughan (The Spy Who Dumped Me, Outlander), Lamorne Morris (Game Night, New Girl), Toby Kebbell (Fantastic Four, Kong: Skull Island) and Talulah Riley (Pride & Prejudice, Westworld). The adaptation is directed by Dave Wilson, who makes his feature directorial debut here. Wilson previously helmed an episode of Netflix’s Love, Death & Robots. Most of his career was spent as a visual effects artist. The script comes from Jeff Wadlow (Truth or Dare, Kick-Ass 2) and Eric Heisserer (Arrival, Lights Out).
