As we can see, the game is taking inspiration from Turtles In Time. To date, that remains quite possibly the most beloved game the franchise has ever produced. While this is not an official sequel, it certainly appears to be cut from the same cloth.
The game had previously been announced by developer Tribute Games. However, at the time, it wasn’t clear what platforms, specifically, the new TMNT video game would debut on. Now, at the very least, Nintendo Switch fans know that they can get their hands on the retro-inspired game. No specific release date has been revealed at this time.
Here is the synopsis for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge.
“Paying homage to classic TMNT games like Turtles In Time, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge reunites Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael as they kick shell in a bodacious, beautifully realized side scrolling beat-em-up invoking the Turtles’ legendary 1987 design. the game is developed by Tribute Games and published by Dotemu, in partnership with Nickelodeon.”
The video game features gameplay rooted in timeless classic brawling mechanics. It comes from the so-called “beat ’em-up experts” at Dotemu (Streets of Rage 4) and Tribute Games (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game, TMNT Game Boy Advance). Players will bash their way through pixel art environments and slay tons of hellacious enemies with their favorite Turtle. Each character has his own skills and moves, making each run unique.
“Choose a fighter, use radical combos to defeat your opponents and experience intense combats loaded with breathtaking action and outrageous ninja abilities. Stay sharp as you face off against Shredder and his faithful Foot Clan alone, or grab your best buds and play with up to four players simultaneously!” Tribute says of the gameplay.
Meanwhile, both Netflix and Nickelodeon have new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles shows in development. At the same time, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are working on a new CGI animated movie centered on the heroes in a half shell. So fans of Michaelangelo, Raphael, Donatello and Leonardo have much to look forward to.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge arrives later this year.
