A brand new Iron Man video game is on the way! While few details have been made available, it has been revealed that Marvel Games has partnered with EA’s Motive for a new game centered on none other than Tony Stark. The game, which doesn’t have an official title yet, is currently in pre-production.
Olivier Proulx is heading up the team for the game, with Ian Frazier, Maëlenn Lumineau, and JF Poirier also on board. Proulx previously worked on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy game. AS for the story? Much remains mysterious but Marvel says “the game will feature an original narrative that taps into the rich history of Iron Man, channeling the complexity, charisma, and creative genius of Tony Stark, and enabling players to feel what it’s like to truly play as Iron Man.”
Bill Rosemann, Vice President and Creative Director at Marvel Games, had this to say.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with the talented team at Motive Studio to bring their original vision of one of Marvel’s most important, powerful and beloved characters. Their experience delivering both established entertainment worlds and thrilling gameplay — combined with their authentic passion for the armored icon — will fuel our quest to deliver a love letter to a legendary hero in the form of the ultimate Iron Man video game.”
Proulx had this to add.
“It’s an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to make a video game based on one of the most iconic Super Heroes in entertainment today. We have a great opportunity to create a new and unique story that we can call our own. Marvel is encouraging us to create something fresh. We have a lot of freedom, which is so engaging for the team.”
It has been a long time since we had a dedicated Iron Man video game. The original movie had a tie-in game back in 2008, but movie tie-in games tend not to be too remarkable. This, on the other hand, is a major undertaking. Granted, Tony Stark was a big part of Marvel’s Avengers game, but it wasn’t a solo title. What’s more, Marvel says that this is just one of several new games they are collaborating with EA on. So, what other characters will be getting the video game treatment?
The biggest question mark right now is what consoles the game will be on. Currently, the Spider-Man games are exclusive to PlayStation, and in some cases make their way to PC. A Wolverine game is also in development for the PlayStation. Will this be more widely available on systems like the Xbox Series X as well? Hopefully, we’ll learn more sooner rather than later.
The new Iron Man video game does not yet have a release date.
