Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Has Sold Over 6.5 Million Copies

Sony has released updated sales figures for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The video game was released last year as a launch title with the PlayStation 5. Now, the company has shared that the game has sold more than 6.5 million copies since its release. It managed to do so in a little under a year.

The numbers were released as part of a press release announcing the PlayStation 5 sales figures thus far. The console itself has sold more than 10 million units worldwide. That makes it Sony’s fastest-selling console in history. It is currently outpacing the PS4 sales numbers, making the console quite successful up to this point.

As for how these numbers for Miles Morales stack up? They certainly look better than they did several months ago. It is important to note that it was a slightly shorter game than the original Marvel’s Spider-Man. That game went on to become one of the best-selling games of the previous generation, with sales topping 10 million.

Here is the synopsis for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

“Experience the rise of Miles Morales as the new hero masters incredible, explosive new powers to become his own Spider-Man. In the latest adventure in the Marvel’s Spider-Man universe, teenager Miles Morales is adjusting to his new home while following in the footsteps of his mentor, Peter Parker, as a new Spider-Man. But when a fierce power struggle threatens to destroy his new home, the aspiring hero realizes that with great power, there must also come great responsibility. To save all of Marvel’s New York, Miles must take up the mantle of Spider-Man and own it.”

“I can’t express enough the deep gratitude we feel for our passionate community of PlayStation fans who have embraced PS5, and the world-class development and publishing partners who bring such incredible gaming experiences to our platforms,” said Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. “While PS5 has reached more households faster than any of our previous consoles, we still have a lot of work ahead of us as demand for PS5 continues to outstrip supply. I want gamers to know that while we continue to face unique challenges throughout the world that affect our industry and many others, improving inventory levels remains a top priority for SIE.”

Sony Interactive Entertainment also revealed the following sales figures.

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales from Insomniac Games has sold more than 6.5 million copies* since releasing on November 12, 2020
  • MLB® The Show™ 21 from San Diego Studio is the fastest-selling title in franchise history with more than 2 million copies* sold across all platforms. The game has reached more than 4 million players since releasing on April 16, 2021
  • Returnal from Housemarque, a new IP that launched to critical acclaim, has sold more than 560,000 copies* since releasing on April 30, 2021
  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart from Insomniac Games has sold more than 1.1 million copies* since releasing on June 11, 2021

Also on the Marvel video games front, it was revealed during E3 that we are getting a Guardians of the Galaxy game later this year. The good news is, much like Marvel’s Avengers, it won’t be a PlayStation exclusive. But because Sony still owns the rights to Spider-Man, any future titles in that series are likely to stay exclusive to the PS5.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is available now.
