Marvel has revealed the cast for its upcoming animated series, M.O.D.O.K. The project was announced last year as one of four animated shows in the works for Hulu, alongside Howard the Duck, Hit-Monkey and Tigra & Dazzler. The hope is that all four of these shows will crossover in an event series titled The Offenders, much like what happened on Netflix with The Defenders.
Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. will star Paton Oswalt as M.O.D.O.K., Aimee Garcia as Jodie, Ben Schwartz as Lou, Melissa Fumero as Melissa, Wendi Mclendon-Covey as Monica Rappaccini, Beck Bennet as Austin Van Der Sleet, Jon Daly as Super Adaptoid and Sam Richardson as Gary. It seems Marvel will be taking a comedic approach to this one, based on the character description they provided for the show’s titular villain.
“After being ousted from both his evil organization and his family, super villain M.O.D.O.K. (Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing) must reinvent himself if he ever wants the chance to win back the things in his life that are most important… outside of conquering the world that is. M.O.D.O.K. is about to find out that super heroes are nothing compared to his newest challenge… a midlife crisis.”
“I’m blown away by our insanely talented and hilarious voice cast, who have all brought their specific kind of magic to this weird and wonderful corner of the Marvel Universe,” said series Executive Producer and Showrunner Jordan Blum.
“Patton and Jordan have done a phenomenal job in laying the groundwork for this exceptional ensemble, we’re thrilled to include this cast in the Marvel family,” said Karim Zreik, SVP, Original Programming & Production, Marvel TV Studios.
Marvel Television was recently shut down. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was promoted to Chief Creative Officer, which put him in charge of the entire creative direction of the company. Jeph Loeb, who has overseen Marvel TV during the MCU, is stepping down and Feige will oversee new shows. Many of which are being produced for Disney+ and will be more firmly rooted in the MCU, such as WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
With that, the fate of these Hulu shows seemed to be in doubt a bit, as they were announced before Marvel shifted gears. At the very least, this one is safe and will be moving forward.
Here’s the synopsis for Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.
“In Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K., the megalomaniacal supervillain M.O.D.O.K. (Patton Oswalt) has long pursued his dream of one day conquering the world. But after years of setbacks and failures fighting the Earth’s mightiest heroes, M.O.D.O.K. has run his evil organization A.I.M. into the ground. Ousted as A.I.M.’s leader, while also dealing with his crumbling marriage and family life, the Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing is set to confront his greatest challenge yet: a midlife crisis!”
M.O.D.O.K. does not yet have a release date set.
