Marvel is bringing us more adventures with Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm. Continuing the world that was introduced in this summer’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Marvel has announced a new prequel series centered on the beloved heroes. Fantastic Four: First Foes will show us what happened before the events of the movie.

Fantastic Four: First Foes #1 will be written by Dan Slott (The Amazing Spider-Man) with artwork by Mark Buckingham. The book hits shelves in March and will show Mr Fantastic and the gang going toe-to-toe with the Mad Thinker. It will be the first in a series of one-shot specials that will arrive throughout 2026. “Return to the world of Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps in the first of a series of quarterly one-shot specials throughout 2026 expanding on different characters and moments from the film! On Earth-828, a cosmic mishap has transformed four brave astronauts into the world’s champions and protectors. They are the Fantastic Four—but one person isn’t happy about things. He’s known as the Mad Thinker, and he’s determined to get his proper due by turning the city of tomorrow against its heroic patrons!”

The Fantastic Four: First Steps hit theaters over the summer. It was the MCU’s third movie of 2025 following Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts. It introduced us to a new Silver Surfer, in a new universe within the Marvel multiverse. The movie was Marvel’s biggest hit of the year, taking in $521 million at the global box office. It starred Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm and Ebon Moss Bachrach as Ben Grimm.

Every one of them will be returning in next year’s Avengers: Doomsday. It’s still unclear if Marvel Studios plans to make a direct First Steps sequel. However, that would probably have to wait until after Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. As of right now, Marvel has four different movie release dates set aside for 2028. One of those could easily be for another FF movie. For now though, these prequels can help fill in the gap.
