Eight DCEU Movies Will Be Streaming On Neflix In December

The DC Extended Universe is about to have a new streaming home. Netflix has announced that eight DC films ranging from Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel to James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad will be arriving on the service in December. For those who have been itching to revisit some of the biggest superhero movies of the last decade, the opportunity will soon be here to do just that.

The announcement comes as something of a surprise. Warner Bros. owns DC and has been keeping most of the movies and TV shows in that universe on the Max streaming service. But as the streaming landscape continues to change, it appears Netflix managed to negotiate a deal for these films. The full list of films arriving for subscribers in December is as follows.

Man of Steel
Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice
Suicide Squad
Wonder Woman
Justice League
Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of Harley Quinn)
Wonder Woman: 1984
The Suicide Squad

It should be noted that Netflix will be getting the theatrical cut of Justice League. Rather famously, Snyder’s much longer cut was eventually released on HBO Max (before the service was rebranded as just Max). The 2021 release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League came after years of fan demand. #ReleaseTheSnyderCut became a persistent hashtag on social media. But viewers will still need to turn elsewhere to see that version. The film is available on VOD and Blu-ray, in addition to streaming on Max.

Man of Steel, released in 2013 and starring Henry Cavill as Superman, kicked off what became known as the DC Extended Universe, or DCEU for short. This all stemmed from Snyder’s vision, which would be furthered in 2016’s Batman v Superman. That film introduced Ben Affleck as the new Batman alongside Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman.

Meanwhile, the DC Universe is about to undergo a major reboot. James Gunn, who previously directed Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, is now the co-head of DC Studios. Alongside Peter Safran, Gunn will shepherd a full slate of movies and TV shows that will move beyond the DCEU. This includes casting new actors in most roles, with Cavill, Affleck and Gadot expected to be replaced as Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, respectively. The new DCU kicks off in earnest with 2025’s Superman: Legacy, which Gunn is directing.

Look for the DC Extended Universe films on Netflix on December 1.
