Deadpool 3 Seemingly Removed From Disney’s Release Calendar

It sounds like Deadpool 3 might be getting delayed. Though Disney has not officially announced another release date change, the company’s recent earnings call strongly suggests it may be the case. The company touted its upcoming theatrical slate from September 2023 to June 2024. The much-anticipated Marvel sequel was absent from that list, as noted by Comic Book Movie

Currently, Deadpool 3 is slated to arrive on May 3 of next year. Originally, the movie was due to arrive in November but had been moved up by Disney several months back. But the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) have been on strike for weeks now. That has effectively shut Hollywood down. This was one of the many productions that had to stop filming as a result. That being the case, it’s very possible the movie won’t be finished on time.

Disney CEO Bob Iger addressed the strikes on the earnings call, expressing hope that a solution can be found soon. “It is my fervent hope that we quickly find solutions to the issues that have kept us apart these past few months,” Iger said. “I am personally committed to working to achieve this result.” The executive previously called the strikes “disturbing” while also saying that the writers and actors have expectations that are “just not realistic.” Now, Iger has changed his tune. Speaking further during the recent call, he said the following.

“Nothing is more important to this company than its relationships with the creative community… that includes actors, writers, animators, directors and producers. I have deep respect and appreciation for all those who are vital to the extraordinary creative engine that drives this company and our industry.”

Ryan Reynolds is returning as Deadpool in the sequel, which is being directed by Shawn Levy (Free Guy). Hugh Jackman is also set to reprise his role as Wolverine for the first time since 2017’s Logan. Plot details for the sequel remain under wraps, but it will be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Recent films such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Spider-Man: No Way Home opening up the multiverse likely have helped to make that possible.

The cast for the third installment in the series also includes Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Stefan Kapicic (Colossus), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Shioli Kutsuna (Yukio), Karan Soni (Dopinder), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al) and Rob Delaney (Peter).

Deadpool 3 is currently set to hit theaters on May 3, 2024.
