For fans who have been waiting to watch Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania at home, the wait is almost over. Marvel has revealed that the film is set to debut on Disney+ on May 17. That means, it will have been a full three months from when the movie first debuted in theaters. Disney was trying to make the most of it at the box office, even if that didn’t pan out. In any case, it will be available to stream with ease in just a few weeks.
The third Ant-Man film is already available to rent on Digitial platforms. However, many viewers likely don’t want to pay the $20 that currently requires. So, those who are content to wait for the Disney+ release only have to hold out a little bit longer. Meanwhile, Quantuamnia is set to arrive on Blu-ray, DVD and 4K Ultra HD on May 16, just a day before its Disney+ debut.
Here is the synopsis for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
“In Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, Super Heroes Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and The Wasp. Together, with Hope’s parents Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and Scott’s daughter Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought possible.”
Marvel sold this as a major event film as the first entry in Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conquerer took center stage and is being sold as the next big threat following Thanos. Unfortunately, lackluster reviews really got in the way. Despite a huge opening weekend, director Peyton Reed’s film fell off a cliff in the ensuing weeks. It currently sits at $475 million worldwide, making it by far the lowest-grossing Ant-Man movie to date. To make matters worse, it was also the most expensive, with a massive $200 million budget.
Whether or not Marvel Studios has to hit the panic button, we’ll see. Though they do have another big issue as Majors has since been arrested for an alleged assault. The actor has been dropped by his representatives and there is a growing sense that Kang will be recast. Next up for the studio is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is set to arrive on May 5.
