New Venom Details Hint at Lethal Protector

With Tom Hardy as the titular character and Michelle Williams as a possible love interest, Sony’s Venom has attracted some of today’s biggest stars. Even so, the movie has one major fault: It isn't set in the MCU. This really is a huge shortcoming, since Venom can’t use Spider-Man, on whom the symbiote depends.

But comic book movies often take liberties when adapting comic book storylines, and Venom is no exception, especially if the movie doesn’t feature Venom's origin.

According to a new Omega Underground report, based on casting calls and shooting locations (San Francisco), Sony will adapt one of the character's earliest (and best-known) stories, Lethal Protector.

In Lethal Protector, which came out almost ten years after the character first appeared in the comics, Venom and Spider-Man finally came to a truce. Additionally, Eddie Brock made peace with the alien symbiote and moved to San Francisco, where he became an actual force for good.

But his past caught up with him. He was confronted by a group of mercenaries called The Jury, and then had to battle a group of symbiote villains.

Again, it would make things easier if Venom could include characters from the MCU. Members of The Jury wear Tony Stark armors, and Spider-Man helps Brock in his fight against the Symbiotes. But liberties can be taken and it’s possible to find a way around the issues.

Venom will start shooting on October 23. It’s expected to be released on October 5, 2018.
