It’s finally here. After much waiting and discussion, the first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has arrived. Hitting theaters this summer from Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, this marks Tom Holland’s fourth solo movie as Peter Parker/Spidey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So, what does Peter’s world look like now that the world has forgotten him? Check it out.
This is a key part of Phase 6 of the MCU which is all leading up to Avengers: Secret Wars. Holland is far from the only familiar face here. Quite a few returning characters from the MCU’s past are on board, both villains and allies, as well as some characters who operate in the grey area.
This is the first time we’ve seen Spidey in the MCU in almost five years, which makes it a pretty big deal. It’s also the only Marvel movie coming out between now and Avengers: Doomsday in December, making it all the more important.
Here is the synopsis for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
“Four years have gone by since we last caught up with our friendly neighborhood hero. Peter Parker is no more, but Spider-Man is at the top of his game keeping New York City safe. Things are going well for our anonymous hero until an unusual trail of crimes pulls him into a web of mystery larger than he’s ever faced before. In order to take on what’s ahead, Spider-Man not only needs to be at the top of his physical and mental game, but he must also be prepared to face the repercussions of his past!”
Jon Watts directed all three prior entries in Holland’s Spider-Man trilogy beginning with Spider-Man: Homecoming. That culminated in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. It grossed $1.9 billion at the global box office, becoming one of the biggest movies of all time. That’s a tough act to follow. The responsibility falls to Destin Daniel Cretton this time around, who previously directed Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. He was also the co-creator and executive producer of the Wonder Man TV show for Disney+.
Confirmed cast members include Jon Bernthal (Punisher), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Zendaya (MJ), Michael Mando (Scorpion), Marvin Jones III (Tombstone), Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds) and Severance star Tramell Tillman in a mystery role. Stranger Things star Sadie Sink is also joining in a major role.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31.
