At long last, we know when The Batman Part II is going to begin filming. Director Matt Reeves delivered The Batman to theaters in early 2022, becoming one of DC’s biggest hits in recent memory. It’s taken several years for Warner Bros. and Reeves to get the sequel together but, at long last, the time is near. Get ready for cameras to roll early next year.
In a recent letter to shareholders, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO provided an update on the DC Studios slate. As part of that, the executive revealed that “The Batman II (2027) is preparing to begin shooting next spring, among several other projects in development.” Robert Pattinson will once again reprise his role as Bruce Wayne. Plot details remain under wraps but this means casting will likely begin sooner rather than later.
DC Studios co-head James Gunn previously revealed that he believes The Batman Part II script is “great.” He declined to say anything further but Reeves handed in a draft earlier this year after much speculation about the project.
This all comes as Gunn and Peter Safran are launching a new, interconnected DC Universe. That began in earnest with the release of Superman earlier this summer. Next year will also see the release of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and Clayface. It’s already been confirmed that Pattinson’ won’t play Batman in the new DCU. That left some to question this sequel’s place at the studio. But things are barreling ahead.
Zaslav, speaking further, helped tee up more of what to expect from DC Studios in the next couple of years.
“The 10-year vision for the DC universe also includes an exciting array of television projects, including The Penguin, which recently garnered 24 Emmy nominations and was watched by nearly 20 million HBO Max subscribers, the upcoming new season of Peacemaker, and the debut of Q2 2025 Shareholder Letter | August 7, 2025 3 Lanterns in 2026. In a precise and measured way, the DC franchise will increasingly overlay across the studio’s broader efforts: from film and TV to consumer products, games, experiences and social.”
“[The Batman Part II is] going to dig into the epic story about deeper corruption, and it goes into places that he couldn’t anticipate in the first one,” Reeves previously said of his Batman sequel. “The seeds of where this goes are all in the first movie. It expands in a way that will show you aspects of the character you never got to see. Batman is constantly battling these forces. But those forces can’t be entirely exorcised. So the next movie delves deeper into that.”
The Batman Part II is set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027.
