Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is underway. This is set to be the end of the line for Marvel’s Multiverse Saga, which has been going since 2021 in the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame. It’s been a big saga that is building towards a big conclusion with Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. But this final phase of this saga is shockingly small, by MCU standards anyway.
Marvel Studios and Disney recently quietly removed an untitled movie from the 2027 calendar. This was going to be an MCU movie. It’s not expected that any other Marvel movies will be announced for that year at this time. That means Secret Wars is the only movie arriving as part of the MCU that year. That also means Phase 6 is going to be the smallest phase of the MCU to date. At least looking purely at the movies.
The only movies currently on the calendar include this summer’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps. We’ve also got Spider-Man: Brand New Day next summer, followed by Avengers: Doomsday in December. Then we head right into Secret Wars in December 2027. That means Phase 6 contains just four movies.
This doesn’t account for TV shows, which have been a much bigger part of the equation during the Multiverse Saga. To that end, we’ve got Wonder Man in December on Disney+. We also had Eyes of Wakanda and Marvel Zombies released in recent weeks. The only other shows on deck during this phase is Daredevil: Born Again season 2 next year, as well as X-Men: ‘97. Though that show is largely disconnected from the main MCU.
For context, Phase 5 consisted of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Marvels, Deadpool & Wolverine, Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts. On the TV side, we also had Secret Invasion, Loki season 2, two seasons of What If…?, the first season of X-Men ‘97 and Echo. It was quite a bit larger.
What we know for sure is that the MCU has had its struggles in recent years. Both Brave New World and Thunderbolts disappointed greatly at the box office. The shows also pulled a lot of focus and suffered from lower-than-expected viewership in many cases. With that all taken into account, there’s a lot riding on Doomsday and Secret Wars. Marvel and Disney need to close this saga out with a bang and, hopefully, get a fresh start with whatever comes next.
Little has been revealed about the post-Multiverse Saga era. Marvel has several release dates set aside in 2028. None of the titles have been announced but the X-Men reboot is in the works. Doctor Strange 3, Black Panther 3, Shang-Chi 2 and the long-delayed Blade reboot are also on deck. We’ll see where the dust settles.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31, 2026.
