X-Men: Dark Phoenix is 20th Century Fox’s second attempt at adapting the Dark Phoenix Saga. The first attempt was Brett Ratner’s X-Men: The Last Stand, a movie that had literally nothing to do with the beloved comic book storyline, with the exception of featuring a supremely over-powered Jean Grey. Maybe this time the studio has found the right recipe for a successful adaptation.
The Phoenix Force is an immortal cosmic entity, so the new X-Men movie shouldn’t remain bound to Earth. This could be the best opportunity for the X-Men to go cosmic and introduce other fan-favorite characters.
This isn't the first time we’ve heard rumors that X-Men: Dark Phoenix will feature the Shi'ar Empire. Previously, those involved in making the film were the only ones to allude to it. But now, Omega Underground has unearthed a tape of Toby Huss of Halt and Catch Fire auditioning for the upcoming X-Men film. It appears that one of the characters on the tape might be a Shi'ar. The character’s tone of voice suggests that he’s unaware that the US exists.
Check it out:
Hoover: Have you learned their language?
2nd Character: Please, there are only 171,000, more than 40,000 of which are obsolete.
Hoover: They are a primitive people. They have never been a threat to anyone but themselves.
2nd Character: If that was so true, we wouldn't be here. So, what have you learned? What type of weapons do they have? Who are their most powerful protectors?
Hoover: They call themselves SEALS, and they're the ones responsible for what's happened.
It remains to be seen, however, whether X-Men: Dark Phoenix will give the fans what they want and introduce the Shi'ar.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set to be released on the 2nd of November 2018.
