Before X-Men: Apocalypse was released, fans talked about the potential impact that Apocalypse would have on the Mutant Shared Universe. After all, he’d influenced the lives of so many mutants, whether directly or indirectly. There were even talks that he might appear in multiple movies, which would establish him as a full character and explain how he actually influenced history.
Instead, we only caught a glimpse of his influence in the opening credits, which made no sense.
The X-Men: Apocalypse credits scene teased the appearance of Mister Sinister, another iconic X-Men villain (Bryan Cranston had teased the character the previous year). Basically, the scene revealed that Sinister would play an important role in Logan, but that didn't happen. However, Simon Kinberg did say that the credits scene sets up the events of the final Wolverine flick.
So what happens next with Mister Sinister, especially since he was deemed too flamboyant for Logan? Well, Kinberg made it clear that there were big plans for the villain in future X-Men movies:
We'd love to see Sinister. I think he is one of the great untapped villains in the X-Men universe, and we do have plans to introduce him into the world. (via CBM)
Who knows? Maybe the rumors are true and Sinister's first appearance will be in Gambit, which apparently is still being made.
Or maybe he’ll appear in Deadpool 2 (which will feature Cable), or in X-Men: Supernova (Jean Grey is the main character), given Mister Sinister's obsession with the Summers. Nobody knows at this point.
However, we do hope that Fox won't waste this opportunity by killing him as soon as he’s introduced. Maybe he’ll be the key to Apocalypse’s revival.
It could happen, right?
