Well before Days of Future Past was released, 20^th Century Fox was certain that they had a hit on their hands and announced officially the release of the next installment, due in 2016. And they did have a hit, even if the buzz started to decrease once the release date was closing by and once director Bryan Singer was falsely accused of taking advantage at parties of young male teenagers.

The said announcement included next year's X-Men: Apocalypse, a sequel to Fantastic Four (2017), the last and untitled Wolverine 3 (2017), another unnamed flick in 2018, as well as an X-Force script being in development. All is well with these plans, except for (maybe) the Fantastic Four sequel. And now we do know one of the movies which will be released in 2018.

Just like with Days of Future Past, the studio is now certain that X-Men: Apocalypse is going to be a hit - even if the buzz is slow and even if, for the moment, the fans are still in the dark. And so they have officially announced the 7^th part of the X-Men franchise for 2018, presumably on the 13th of July.

Of course, nothing is known about this new project. However, since Bryan Singer teased us, we may believe that the younger team of mutants (which will be introduced in X-Men: Apocalypse) will continue the story. And it may as well be a never-ending one, even if we will part ways with both the First Class actors and Bryan Singer.

Speaking of which, the director still has plenty of shooting to do within this shared universe, because he will be the one to take the team to Montreal for the untitled X-Men 7. The rumor is that James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender have both renewed their contracts - and is also expected for Nicholas Hoult to stick around, given the fact that he loves the comic books.

No word yet as far as Jennifer Lawrence is concerned - but since the actress has cleared her schedule of one big franchise (The Hunger Games), we can expect (or whish, for that matter) for her to also continue down this path.

In any way, even if these 4 won't appear in any other X-Men movies, there are plenty of young stars which can make the franchise their own - Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, and so on.

But the question still remains: will X-Men: Apocalypse be the box office hit the studio wants to be? Or will Bryan Singer pull a Brett Ranter and finish the trilogy with disgrace?
