Venom: Shooting Delayed

Aiming for a late 2018 release, Venom will be the first Sony Marvel Universe movie to follow the Spider-Man deal. We’re not sure how the movie will handle the conspicuous absence of Peter Parker, but with Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom and Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) directing, it almost has to be extremely interesting.

Although we don’t know how big his role will be, it’s been confirmed that Carnage (Rogue One's Riz Ahmed) will appear in the film. It’s also rumored that She-Venom (or at least, Eddie Brock's wife, Anne Weying) will appear.

Tom Hardy in Warrior (Film Fad)

Venom was expected to begin shooting early in September, but filming was delayed until the end of the month. But now, it appears that there are a number of things that require attention during pre-production, as Omega Underground just announced that production has been delayed once again.

The website reported that filming for Venom won't begin until October 23, 2017, so nearly two months later than the original plan specified. Reportedly, Sony will cast the movie (only Tom Hardy has been officially announced), and scout for new locations in Atlanta and New York in the interim. Some shooting could also take place in San Francisco.

Of course, all of these delays might signal that the film’s in trouble. However, the release date and Sony’s goal of making an R-rated horror/sci-fi flick (with a much lower budget than the usual superhero film), both indicate that there’s plenty of time for the studio to deliver the best Venom film possible.

Venom is expected to be released on October 5, 2018.
