Since 2003 when the adventures of Lara Croft took a big break, we haven't heard much about Tomb Raider, except the releasing of the video game series based on the movie. The first two installments had moderate success, even if they had on board a high-rated cast: Angelina Jolie, Daniel Craig, and Gerard Butler. Maybe the two movies lacked a team of inspired writers and an outstanding director.
And maybe this is the reason why, the upcoming reboot has been in development for five years, as it has potential but someone must be able to explore this potential.
Anyway, the reboot seems to finally be on the move, with the director and the writer on their way to team-up. THR reported that Roar Uthaug (The Wave) has already signed on to take over the directorial duties and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (co-writer of Transformers 5) is in the process of negotiating a collaboration.
Tomb Raider’s Reboot Will Line Up With The Latest Lara Croft Video Games
The developer of Tomb Raider video game series, Crystal Dynamics will join the new team, as they previously did so when Evan Daugherty, Marti Noxon, Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby were in charge with the script. Robertson-Dworet might come with a new, fresh script and Crystal Dynamics will assist to keep the movie lined up with the tone and atmosphere in the latest Tomb Raider video games.
There are no plot details and we know nothing about who might take over the role of Lara Croft in this new Tomb Raider adventure, but we have the feeling that it's going to be a hit, unlike the previous two installments.
As for the production, Warner Bros. MGM and GK Films are in charge to bring the reboot of the archaeological adventure series back and in a better shape.
What do you think about the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot and who would you choose to play the role of Lara Croft?
