Pierce Brosnan started off as James Bond with 1995's GoldenEye and ended his journey with 2002's Die Another Day. In between those two movies, he played the character in another two movies - in 1997's Tomorrow Never Dies and in 1999's The World Is Not Enough. His successor, Daniel Craig, has also played the immensely popular British Secret Service agent on big screen four times - the fourth being the recently released Spectre.
So, what does Pierce Brosnan think of the latest James Bond flick? Well, not as good as the box office suggests - not even close! In a recent interview with Hitfix, the former James Bond has accused Spectre of being "˜too long' and having a "˜weak' story! Here's what he said:
"I was looking forward to it enormously. I thought it was too long. The story was kind of weak "” it could have been condensed. It kind of went on too long. It really did."
The recent James Bond movies, as you might know, seem to have a tendency to be inclined to the gritty and grounded Jason Bourne franchise. Brosnan couldn't resist himself from criticizing Spectre for that approach. He commented:
"["˜Spectre'] is neither fish nor fowl. It's neither Bond nor Bourne. Am I in a Bond movie? Not in a Bond movie?"
Craig Has Ownership of James Bond!
Well, Pierce Brosnan's thought on the performance of his successor is not something that would disappoint Daniel Craig! According to Brosnan, in his fourth film as James Bond, Craig has "˜ownership' of the character and that there was "˜a nice looseness to him' in the movie. He added:
"He's a mighty warrior, and I think he found a great sense of himself in this one with the one-liners and a nice playfulness there. Just get a tighter story, and he'll have another classic."
Brosnan Defends Craig's Comment!
The former James Bond also talked about Daniel Craig's controversial comment in which he claimed he would rather SLASH HIS WRIST than do another 007 movie. He thinks that Craig was "˜just fairly banjaxed' by playing the character. He explained:
"By the time you finish making a Bond movie, you don’t want to hear the name, see the name or have anything to do with it because you just want to go to ground."
Brosnan concluded by saying that if Craig is given a year off from playing James Bond, he would surely be "˜ready to rock and rock'!
