Everybody wants to be in the Star Wars movies, even if the role is a minor cameo under tons of prosthetics. Such was the case for Simon Pegg and Daniel Craig in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and such will be the case for Tom Hardy in the next installment of the franchise.
At least this is what Making Star Wars reports. And there is no reason not to trust the website, since it has provided quite a few reliable scoops in the past. So, what role will the Mad Max: Fury Road star have? Last year, nobody could recognize Pegg and Craig, since one played an alien, while the latter donned a full Stormtrooper outfit.
So – check it out if you want. But this is a pretty big spoiler!
According to the website mentioned above, Tom Hardy will also be a First Order Stormtrooper, one who sympathizes with FN-2187 (also known as Finn). Apparently, Finn is sent into a covert mission, when he is found by an old First Order academy friend - played by Tom Hardy. Luckily for Finn, this old friend doesn't seem too brainwashed, since he congratulates Finn for making it into the Resistance as an infiltrator and a spy.
So what could have ended with the capture (and, most likely, torture) of John Boyega's character ends up with a friendly slap on the ass (literally, apparently), a friendly scare, and some congratulations.
Also, according to Making Star Wars, there are very few who know that Finn is a traitor. Tom Hardy's Stormtrooper would be surprised to see his old friend as a resistance fighter, which implies that he had no idea that Finn had switched sides.
By the looks of it, this seems to be yet another funny cameo by a major star, similar to Daniel Craig’s in The Force Awakens.
