Star Wars: Rogue One is next in line to populate the expanded Star Wars universe on the silver screen. Rogue One will launch a series of Star Wars stories exploring different times and places, new characters, and new elements.
Felicity Jones is the main name among the cast so far, and she will supposedly portray a character named Lyra Erso. Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Forrest Whitaker, and Donnie Yen are mentioned as joining Rogue One’s cast. We have some information from Making Star Wars about the roles they will play.
The folks from Making Star Wars have reliable sources, yet you should take the information with a grain of salt. However, their sources state that the villains and heroes of Star Wars: Rogue One have code-names. That is, the good guys are refereed to as Seals and the villains as Sharks, which makes sense.
Felicity Jones is Green Seal Leader, Jiang Wen’s code-name is Seal Communicator Blue, Alan Tudyk is Seal Droid, as he plays a droid, Forest Whitaker's probably one-legged character is named Eel Commander. Jiang Wen and Eel Commander are supposedly bounty hunters with Rebel sympathies. Others speculate that the Rebel Armada will be divided into additional units, respectively Green, Red, and Blue, along with other units.
The main villain in Rogue One is an older male with a badass weapon
So we learned about the good guys’ code-names, but what about the bad guys? Especially the main bad guy? Making Star Wars comes back again with juicy, but unconfirmed, details.
They describe the main villain as an old man who is important to the Empire, and “his main feature is a huge majestic white cape with a slit in the back.”
Some details are being withheld from me on this character I believe to be new. But I find it intriguing nonetheless. There's a new bad guy, at least I think he's a bad guy. He appears to be a leader and to have some stature of some kind. Today I would guess he's of some periportance to the Empire as he appears to be revered. I asked if he was Tarkin and was asked the rhetorical question if Grand Moff Tarkin would wear a fancy cape or not? Okay (Making Star Wars).
They think the role of the main villain will be played by Ben Mendelshon and not Mads Mikkelsen. Here’s the reason why:
It isn't Mads Mikkelsen by the sound of things. Mikkelsen wears earth tones in terms of his costume. There's a shot of him in an impressive golden colored field. So by the sound of things, he isn't the guy in the white cape, unless he loses it later on in the film or something like that. But hey, we can at least place him in a setting now (Making Star Wars).
The movie is scheduled to hit theaters in December of 2016, so details might come down the pike faster than we expect. Stay tuned!
