While the Star Wars movies are all about the Skywalkers, the expanded universe literally regards the entire galaxy from far, far away. We are not talking any longer about a single family, but about all those heroic people who have opposed, in one way or another, the tyrannical regime of the Sith and their followers.
And some of these people aren't aware that they possess this ability to manipulate the energy that surrounds everything. For them, the Force is the stuff of legends, just as it is for us.
A number of Star Wars fan films have been made over the years. Anybody can shoot one - and anybody can enter a fan film creation in the official Star Wars Fan Film Awards. Winners are announced at San Diego Comic Con or during the Star Wars Celebration.
We project that Kara has every chance of winning this year’s official contest, given the film’s great cinematography, camera work, costumes, and special effects. Even if the plot can be traced back to The Force Awakens, it is still more than worth your time to see it.

What is very interesting here is the use of the Force (as mentioned previously, it is called energy, since nobody knows better), and the fact that Kara doesn't give in to the Dark Side, due to a Jedi vow she has taken. Her family convinces her to spare the Stormtroopers.
The rumor is that Rian Johnson (who will direct Episode VIII) intends to build upon this short story - although we have no idea who sparked the rumor.
Star Wars: Kara - An Unofficial Fan- Made Film is written and directed by Joe Sill, while the main characters are portrayed by Peter Arpesella (Markus), Daniela Flynn (Athena), and Andra Nechita (Kara).
