As said in a previous article, the Sony bosses were not at all pleased by the Amazing Spider-Man revenues. But this was nothing compared to their anger when Andrew Garfield criticized the studio for interfering in the creative process. Obviously, we are still waiting the official word - is Andrew Garfield out of the Spider-Man universe or not?
But this was said before - the current news is brought by the same leaked emails between Sony and Marvel.
In the last 12 years, we have had two origin stories for Spider-Man and two attempts of building a shared universe for Marvel's most beloved superhero. And both of these attempts failed miserably.
A troubled fate
The first two Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies are seen as probably the best ones in the entire superhero genre, and that is why Sony wanted him back after this year's debacle. However, what the studio fails to recognize is that the third Raimi movie could have been the best of them all, since it introduced one of the greatest villains of all time: Venom.
The second attempt
Now comes the Andrew Garfield era, which seen the same thing all over again - and the results were seen quickly after the release of the second (not so) Amazing Spider-Man movie. The third part was pushed back, the Sinister Six movie will be a (soft) reboot, and so on. There is still no news about these movies whatsoever.
Could it work?
Not so much, especially after these two failed attempts. Furthermore, when the fans go to the movies, they want to see the Spider-Man they fell for and not some married with children science-teacher that moonlights as a superhero.
Furthermore, and now more than ever, the fans are adamant - Marvel should take over since Marvel knows what to do with superheroes.
