Birdman - The Fake Superhero Movie and the Golden Globes

Birdman

The story of Birdman resembles, in a way, the story told by Darren Aronofsky in The Wrestler, with one single annotation - The Birdman doesn't seem to be based on real events. However, given its main actor, it could be said that it resembles his life story.

In a nutshell

A former superhero actor takes on Broadway in order to save what's left of his career and bring it to new heights. His idea is to show everybody that he isn't washed-up - but, furthermore, by staging a grandiose play, he also wants to prove everybody that he is much more than just a superhero actor. He wants to prove that he is an artist.

In order to do that, he hires an actor - and this leads to unexpected events.

The actors

A couple of years ago, it would have said that Birdman has a main stellar cast. Michael Keaton, whose career dimmed to a minimum after Tim Burton's Batman films, plays Riggan, the former superhero actor. Edward Norton (who portrayed Hulk in The Incredible Hulk) is Mike, the actor cast by Riggan. Emma Stone (who, of course, can be remembered for her Amazing Spider-Man role as Gwen Stacy) is Riggan's daughter Sam.

The cast of Birdman is completed by Zach Galifianakis and Naomi Watts.

The Golden Globes

Birdman has nabbed the most nominations at this year's Golden Globes: best comedy or musical, best actor in a comedy or musical (Keaton), best supporting actor (Edward Norton), best supporting actress (Emma Stone), best director (Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu), bet screenplay and best score.

And those that have already saw the movie (it was released in the US on the 14th of November) will tell you that it deserves to win at each and every of these categories.

One more thing

Another title for Birdman is The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance. If you have the chance, see it!
