Spider-Man Back Home: How Would Marvel Welcome Him?

Spider-Man has been for a couple of months now a subject of debate between Sony and Marvel. But talks have come to a standstill. Until the Spidey summit in January - when Sony and Marvel will supposedly sit and discuss the future of the franchise - or until whichever of the studios airs something out before that date, if at all - we can easily entertain a thought or two on how Spider-Man could return to MCU.

Spider-Man's return to Marvel is self-explanatory. All fans embrace the prospect. Plus, the higher-ups of Sony have themselves admitted - no, not publicly, but in the emails that have leaked following the Sony hack - the franchise needs a facelift. Sitting with Marvel to talk Spider-Man makes a lot of sense: who else to turn to than the very creators of the world's beloved webslinger?

A few good ways to reboot Spider-Man

No overstatement here: starting from scratch with Spider-Man is the safe - bot probably not exactly the most engaging - way to play the webslinger card. Starting all over again with a new actor could lay the grounds for a franchise that is committed to neither the pros nor the cons of what the Maguire-age and the Garfield-age left to the character and to the franchise.

But, then again, what if the original face of Spider-Man returned to the big screen? Back in the heydays of the franchise, Tobey Maguire pulled off a superhero that didn't need the "amazing" label in order for us to consider it amazing. Would the developing a mature Spidey count as a plan for Marvel?

But we don't mean to speak ill of continuators. Which leads us to Andrew Garfield. What if his part so far would be capitalized as grounds for cameos in future Marvel flicks? Sony would have control of the character, but Spider-Man will be there in the Marvel Universe. And he could, as iconic Marvel character, live off tie-ins, just like the Hulk did after his standalone appearances. That's a win-win situation for both studios.

How do you see Marvel rebooting Spider-Man? In the event Sony yields or comes to an agreement with Marvel, do you believe any of the listed possibilities will be factored in? Leave your comments here and let us know your thoughts!
