After Power Rangers had the gritty and grounded remake through what is known now as the Unauthorized NSFW Bootleg Power/Rangers, the studios are finally moving forward with the official movie of their own. Thus, besides some new casting announcements, they have also revealed some plot details concerning the movie, as well as who will be the main villain.
From what we know until now, this will be no reboot of the original TV series/franchise of films. Instead, it will be what is called a semi-continuation of Power Rangers Dino Charge, which had the first season released this year.
Power Rangers
So far, from what we know, Lionsgate and Saban intend to start the production of the movie in early 2016. Screenwriters Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz (Thor and X-Men: First Class) have already finished the script, reportedly. Also, Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) is onboard to direct. The casting is well underway, for young actors to portray the teenagers with an attitude: Jason, the Red Ranger, Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Zack the Black Ranger, Trini the Yellow Ranger, and Billy the Blue Ranger.

The villain revealed!
Reportedly, the Power Rangers film will be a semi-continuation of the current TV series. This basically means that, while it will take its cues from it, the movie will be basically a spin-off.
If until now it was believed that Rita Repulsa will be the main antagonist, these new pieces of information show that she cannot be. Because the movie will continue the story of the TV series, Rita has already been purified, together with her fellow villain Lord Zedd.
Her place as the main villain of the story was taken by one of her minions, none other than Scorpina. But how did she survive? Why wasn't she purified together with the previous mentioned villains when Zordon died and released the wave of energy throughout the entire galaxy?
Apparently, her survival has something to do with the fact that she was in human form at the time of those events. This is just a theory, nonetheless, most likely waiting to be confirmed or debunked when more news about Power Rangers arrives.
And this should be soon enough, since the studios are aiming to shoot the movie from January until March next year, in Vancouver. Head on to the next page for more details about Scorpina and her plan to bring down the Power Rangers!
A threat for the Morphin Grid
To be even clearer, the new Power Rangers movie will take its cues from the TV series and will follow it - however, there will be new Rangers involved in the action, as opposed to those already present in the TV show. The rumor is that the present rangers will somehow catch a glimpse of the future in the introductory scene, after which they won't be seen at all throughout the movie.
Most likely, this will happen when the Z-wave detonates.
In any way, they are able to see that not all the evil-doers where subdued and that Scorpina is planning to take her army and destroy the Morphin Grid. It isn't known which of the Power Rangers will be there to stop her, but the outcome is that the Grid is somehow affected by the attack. As a result, the new Rangers will have to find a way to repair it and restore its power giving powers.
The Morphin Grid is essential for the Power Rangers, since it is the one who bestows them with their, well, morphing powers.
In any way, reportedly, the whole battle will take place in the beginning of the movie. Which brings another question. Check out the next page too!
Is Scorpina the only villain?
As said, the beginning of the Power Rangers movie will also feature the assault on the Morphin Grid. And while the Grid itself will be damaged, we can expect for the Power Rangers to actually win and defeat Scorpina. And now comes the question: if she is defeated in the beginning of the movie, is there someone else to take her place and prevent the Rangers from fixing the Grid?
This seems like the most plausible possibility, especially since we have seen in countless of movies such introductory scenes (the James Bond franchise is filled with them). And if it is so, who might that villain be?
There is no certain news at this moment so we'll just leave it at that. Although a joke could be made concerning the villain of X-Men: Apocalypse…
We can also add that the director has already said what kind of movie Power Rangers is going to be - not at all a dark and gritty one, as we saw in the Bootleg version. Dean Israelite said that his intention is to build a universe comparable to the MCU - which, in itself, is an honorable idea. And given the fact that this is a Power Rangers film, we are more than glad to hear that the movie will be a light-hearted one.

The Pink Ranger is found!
Since the studios are planning to start shooting this next January (so in under 3 months), we are wondering how come they haven't cast the main actors yet. Thus far, the only Ranger who has already found an actor is the Pink Ranger.
Kimberly Hart will be portrayed by Naomi Scott, whose biggest credit is this year's The Martian. Other than her, there is total silence.
