In his almost-three-decade-long career, Matt Damon has portrayed so many badass characters, but never a superhero character. Of course, he isn't the only Academy Award winning actor in Hollywood to have never featured in a comic book movie. There are many others. Many of these actors have some kind of distaste for superhero movies.
Does The Martian star have a problem with superhero movies? Definitely not! The actor himself makes this clear in a recent interview with Irish Examiner during the premiere of Jason Bourne, saying, “I'd consider anything with the right director, but I can't imagine there are any superheroes left, I think they're all taken at this moment.”
It definitely doesn't seem like Matt Damon knows much about comic books and superheroes, because there are a whole lot of superheroes left! Even if he is referring to the most popular ones, there are others, like Green Lantern and Green Arrow, who will likely appear on the big screen in upcoming years.
So, who would Matt Damon consider the right director for his superhero movie? It's his best friend and our new Batman, Ben Affleck! According to the actor:
If he (Ben) was directing me, I'd jump on it in a New York minute. I'd love to work with Ben.
However, Damon doesn't think that it's very likely, because his friend has a certain issue! What is it? The actor says:
The problem with Ben is every time he directs a movie, he gives himself the best role in it, so until he's willing to give up the best role to one of his friends, we're not going to get on with it.
Would he mind playing a menacing supervillain in the untitled Batman standalone movie that Ben Affleck would be directing as well? No idea! But we would definitely not mind, would we? And we wouldn't also mind seeing Ben Affleck direct another DC Extended Universe flick with his old pal in the lead superhero role.
This isn't the first time Matt Damon has expressed his interest in playing a superhero. Last year, he suggested that he would be up for a Daredevil movie if Christopher Nolan were directing it. But this is almost impossible, considering that Charlie Cox's version of the character is already a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Despite having some interest in playing a superhero, Damon says NO right away to the idea of portraying James Bond. Why? He doesn't think "anyone from outside the UK" should go for the role.
